This book was captivating to me because it is based on the history of our great country during a time of great crisis. It delves into the perspectives and beliefs of multiple sides of the slavery issue. I have never understood how anyone could think of another human as lower beings. The author allows us a look into the hearts of good people on multiple sides of this issue during the start of the civil war. I found much to relate to the unrest in our country today.Product details

Storm Clouds Rolling In Bregdan Chronicles 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Ginny Dye Christine Cunningham Smith A Voice In The World Publishing Books Reviews
I would highly recommend this novel and all the ones that follow. The Bregdan Chronicles presents the reader with a multitude of issues during a very difficult time in American History. The story is presented in such a way that the reader gets a chance to see all aspects of the issues, all through the eyes of a wonderful cast of characters. I have read all of the books that follow #1, including Ginny Dye's latest, #5 THE LAST LONG NIGHT. Instead of writing a review for each one individually, I will just say read them all!!! You will not be disappointed.
What was it like to be in Virginia on the eve of the Civil War? In this thoughtful and well-researched historical novel Ginny Dye succeeds in telling the story from multiple points of view, including that of the plantation owner, the plantation owner’s daughter, and the slaves on the plantation.
The South rides the tiger of slavery, from which they dare not dismount. Thomas Cromwell is torn. He has a large and successful plantation run by slaves. He believes in the institution of slavery, but he loves his country. He sees that succession and civil war are coming and be believes that the war will bring an end to everything he cares about. He is determined to be the voice of reason and dissuade his fellow Virginians from heeding the siren call of the cotton states.
Cromwell’s daughter, Carey is a strong and independent young woman. She loves the plantation and at the same time feels stifled by it. She has ambitions to become a doctor and has had a lot of practice treating slaves on the plantation for their illnesses. She is strongly emotionally attached to the slaves on the plantation and has come to wonder if slavery is an evil.
Rose is Carey’s body servant. She is intelligent and literate and she secretly teaches the other slaves on the plantation to read. She would like nothing more than to be free, but when the chance comes to escape via the underground railway, she cannot leave her aging mother.
Dye’s characters are complex and compelling and she shows a profound knowledge of the issues of the day. I look forward to reading the subsequent novels.
This book of historical fiction captures the emotion on both sides of the slavery debate through well developed characters that become real to the reader. As each one, as well as the country, struggle with the turoil around them, the reader is able to live this history with them. Mesmerizing!
Started reading this book on a whim. Offered to me on at very inexpensive price, $.99. Read it in one day, as I was captured by it. On to the next one with great expectations. If you enjoy reading historical novels about slavery and the Civil War you will definitely enjoy these books. And a little romance thrown in makes for a great read!
Ginny Dye knows how to bring the Old South to life. Her character development and presentation of how life was during those days prior to the Civil War transport you to that time. For anyone who enjoys reading a great novel based on this time in America's history, this book is for you. Her idea to do this series covering one year in each book gives the reader a chance to absorb all the details in each book, and one can almost put yourself in the shoes of her characters. I have read Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind" 4 times from cover to cover, and in my opinion, this book and the following 3 books in this series rank right up there with that masterpiece of historical fiction. I'm currently reading the 4th book in the series, "Dark Chaos", and hope Ginny will continue this story in many books to come.
This is one that I read in spite of the cover am due am so glad I did! It’s a great book and now I’m looking anxiously for book 2! Hooked me right into the build up of the civil war. Great characters. I really do love it when they are wrestling with issues and figuring out what they believe & what’s important to them. The personal growth. Carrie & Rose both encounter this in their lives and I’m loving who they become. Since I can’t find book 2 in the library database, I’m off to spend my hard earned $ on a kindle or audible copy!
I love historical fiction, though I am not a fan of History. It was my least favorite subject in school. So when I find a writer that can weave historical facts into the drama of fiction, I'm hooked. The writing in this book is fantastic, bringing imagery and life to the characters. The story is compelling and will make you think about things that never entered your mind before. Ginny is truly an inspiring writer. Read this book - you won't regret it!
